Our client requested an insightful, informative, and engaging digital series for their internal Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion committee to provide to their employees for training purposes. Our team was challenged with coming up with an overall brand identity that would reflect unity, diversity, and a myriad of perspectives all forging into a larger voice. Despite an initial direction of “kaleidoscope,” we landed on a logo that we came to refer to as similar to painting with the colours of the wind.
With accessibility in mind, we worked diligently to create a brand that would be comprehensible to a variety of different stakeholders. Each of the components of the brand were established with legibility as our main priority. As such, many of the design choices hinged on contrast and readability.
Outside of the visual identity and brand guidelines, we created a series of functional branded assets and templates, a SharePoint site to distribute information on the Brand, Brand Elements, animated Video Episodes, and created physical spaces with Branded graphics and an immersive design for the initiative.
The DEI logo helped shape the rest of the series, with each of the distinctive colours becoming attributed to the characters that would subsequently form the basis of the training videos. One of the main challenges that we ran into was putting together a colour palette that would work both in RGB and CMYK, since we understood that the roll out of the program would include both digital and print assets. Despite the challenge, we were able to create a world that was both vibrant and cohesive, which helped establish a very strong visual architecture.
